This year for Halloween, I decided I wanted to do some sort of total transformation.
In previous years, I found myself falling back on my usual Pippi Longstocking costume-perpetuated by my huge closet full of red striped clothing. I just had to put on my usual clothes, and run a coathanger through my pigtail braids.

This year, however, for the first time I found myself with hair too short to pull this trick off.

A few months back I had bought this red wig, and at the time I immediately thought of Velma Dinkley, from Scooby Doo.
Coming through my closet I happened upon the wig & immediately knew what I was going to be.

I’ve been super busy the past couple weeks.

Like, unbelievably so.

One of the things I’ve been doing is writing a song a week for the kind folks over at 5lights!

Over the past month or so, I’ve been really, really busy.
Here’s a brief & somewhat cryptic list of some things that have been taking up my time, each of which warrant their own, less cryptic, posts at a later date:

+ Music

I’ve been continuing to work on my solo album, but it’s recently been sidetracked a bit because I met my creative doppelganger & as such I unexpectedly have a new music project.
There will be more, much more, on this topic later.

+ Podcast

I’ve been guesting on a rad podcast with a fair amount of frequency, which I will reveal whenever some of the more recent episodes I’m on get posted.

+ Video

I’ve been working on both some documentary video pieces (similar to stuff you’ve seen here before) as well as some new video art (which is something I’ve been neglecting for a couple years).

+ Comics

I finished a 4 page autobiographical comic for an anthology, which I’ll tell you all about when it’s coming out. I will just say that this comic was perhaps the hardest to finish piece I’ve ever worked on, next to Rescue Breathing. I think this means I need to get more comfortable with autobio.

+ Super sekrit project!

I can’t tell you what this project is, but I can tell you it launches on April 1st.

Oh yes I did.

Fortunately, the reason I haven’t had much time lately is because I’ve been making art! Big art, in fact!

As some of you know, I’m attending Burning Man next week.

Over the weekend, I was kidnapped* by my friend, Mr. Neil Nightshade, to help him put together his mobile photo studio.

& so, we drove 4 hours south to Grover Beach and built an art car.

I wielded various power tools, paintbrushes, and cheap beer towards victory!

We stayed with Martin and Leanne, who were not only gracious hosts, but really inspiring creative people to be around. Martin did much of the construction and structutal work, and Leanne came up with an amazing idea for the project involving leftover movie theatre trailers that I can’t really properly show you until we get all the electronics attached.

Neil did much of the wiring, soldering, and schematics for all the lighting on the car. I learned more about LEDS this weekend than I thought possible in a period of 48 hours!

I’m hoping to participate in more large scale collaborative projects of this sort in the future. I love making websites and drawing, but nothing beats the ability to make something bigger than yourself, with the help of your friends.

I’ll be posting pictures of how it comes out when it’s complete, and also photos of it at night with all the lights on. Thanks to Martin, Leanne, and especially Neil.

* a note on kidnapping. I like it when my friends say things like “Want to go on a crazy adventure? Be ready in an hour.” I haven’t had nearly enough spontaneous interactions of this sort as of late, and I really, really love it. If you’re my friend, and you have a good idea for something epic and fun, please call me. Especially if it’s last minute.

I had a really awesome post planned for today, but I spent most of last night in the ER for dehydration and low potassium…so no post for right now.

I am okay & feeling pretty much back to normal today.
Thanks to everyone who expressed concern and thanks to docpop, amy, mike, and dan for getting me to the hospital and for sitting with me while I was getting fluids.

I have a follow up later with my dr. so I’ll let you guys know if anything weird is going on…but mostly it just looks like I need to drink more water…and eat bananas.

ugh.

My new camera finally came yesterday.
It has features my old one was woefully lacking, like HD video recording capabilities, 10x zoom, and a functioning flash.

I suspect that this new development is going to lead to a lot of great changes for this blog…

Now if I could just find some extra time…
